![]() ![]() Reading her poems was a completely new poetry experience for me. ![]() The poems in milk and honey are short, yet poignant, like a farewell kiss to a lover. In relation to style, Kaur could easily put Ernest Hemingway to shame. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve read her whole collection or only read one of her poems of Instagram, it will stay with you all the same. The truly remarkable thing about Kaur’s poetry is her economical approach to writing. Reading milk and honey is like letting Rupi Kaur draw you a bath amongst candles which will scrub and cleanse your soul. I’m so glad I didn’t let these posts pass me by. ![]() I first encountered Kaur’s poems online through tumblr and facebook, matched with her beautiful illustrations that depict the tones of each poem. This has been a huge mine of inspiration for my own writing and I devoured Kaur’s poetry in one sitting. Milk and honey is a collection of short prose and spoken word poetry that centres around love (for others and the self), abuse, heartache, and sexuality, written from the unique perspective of Rupi Kaur, an Indian young woman of the Sikh faith who immigrated to Canada. ![]()
